Church, Fellowship, and Oranges.
One bread, one cup, one body of Christ. United in love.
Thought of the day? During today’s homily at St. Anne’s by Deacon Jim Myers, what most caught my attention was his mini allusion to - yup, you guessed it - oranges. When it comes to naturally grown oranges, one must peel away at the orange to get to the center. The result of this labor is the sweet, satisfying goodness that is eating an orange. This concept can be used when it comes to finding Jesus and finding God. It’s not just going to be handed to you, but rather you must work for what you want. People also tend to take the ‘easy way out’ with such things. Take going to the store and purchasing canned goods, for example, which defeats the purpose and, in contrast to our Christ, makes Jesus & God seem more like ‘convenient friends’, which they should not. Likewise, this also applies to everything else in life, as everything requires hard work and effort, but I just found Deacon Jim’s reference to oranges very eye-opening. A brilliant lecture, indeed!
